Everything you need to know about DI water systems.

How long does the resin last, and how many rinses can I expect?

Resin life depends mainly on your local water quality, specifically the TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) of your tap water. Higher TDS means more dissolved minerals for the resin to remove, so the resin will be used up faster. As a real-world example, on ~290ppm input water we measured about a third of the output shown below.

Estimated output at about 100 ppm input water, using 30 L for the final rinse only:

Lite (10L, 2 bags of resin): 2,550 to 2,900 L, 85 to 97 rinses
Pro (15L, 3 bags of resin): 4,000 to 4,500 L, 133 to 150 rinses
Commercial (25L, 5 bags of resin): 6,700 to 7,500 L, 220 to 250 rinses

At 200 ppm you get about half as many rinses. Australian town water often sits around 50 to 300 ppm, depending on your location and water source. Some areas are lower, and others can be significantly higher.

Tip: Wash with normal tap water, then use Spot Free Rinse only for the final rinse. This stretches resin life significantly.

These figures are estimates because water quality varies. Check your output TDS periodically. When it reads above 10 ppm or spots start to appear, it’s time to replace the resin.

Can I use warm or hot water?

No, use cold tap water only. Hot water can damage the resin and reduce its performance and lifespan.

How do I connect the tank to my hose?

Each tank includes standard Aussie garden hose fittings. Just connect your regular garden hose to the inlet and attach your spray nozzle or pressure cleaner to the outlet. Simple as that.

Is purified water safe for my vehicle and windows?

100%! Purified water is actually safer than regular tap water because it contains no minerals, meaning no streaks, no spots, and no residue.

It’s safe on:

Can I replace the resin myself?

Absolutely. All Spot Free Rinse tanks are designed for easy resin replacement at home. Just unscrew the cap, extract the old resin, and pour in fresh resin. We sell resin replacement kits that include everything you need except a pair of scissors, plus detailed instructions (including a video).

What is a DI water system and how does it work?

A DI (Deionised) water system uses specialised resin to remove all minerals and impurities from tap water. When you rinse your car, windows, or solar panels with DI water, it evaporates completely clean without leaving water spots or mineral deposits.

How long does the DI resin last?

Resin life depends on your local water TDS, usage volume, and system size. Higher TDS water will consume resin faster. Many users monitor output with a TDS meter to know when to replace. Check out our website's FAQ page for an easy to use calculator and more information.

Which tank size should I choose?

Choose based on your water TDS and how often you rinse. Higher TDS or more frequent washing benefits from a larger tank to extend resin life and reduce maintenance.
